The Content

How much content needs to be created and how?

Remember that all content must be created for each language. The design/layout is of course the same, but both text and images (that contain text) has to be delivered. The initial language content is of course the most demanding. The following languages content is usually just translation work. So after I have created the multi-language support for the site, you will mainly be able to translate and create the content for new languages yourself. Therefore prices after the second language are cheaper.

Here I mean an expected estimate of page templates with different content and layout, including "Contact", "About us", "Front page", as well as various subpages. For example, if you have two page templates, you can create the pages you want with these two templates.

The process of creating content can be both relatively short and very extensive. It depends on your resources. But it is quite certain that the resources one uses on this are always well spent as it creates a solid foundation under your site and its use. The final price estimate therefore depends on how thorough you want to be with this.

Individuals with a strong knowledge of both the business and brand of the company, typically has the best potential to author the actual text content of the site. But of course I am happy to help with this as well. The estimated price for this is 300€ per page-type (selected above).

Analysis and clarification of your company's personas/target group

Joint workshop with you where structure and overall content is planned

Creation of sketches (wireframes) as a strong base for final design or development

Creation of functional UX prototype for testing. Built in Adobe xD and allows you to test both content and interaction, online in a browser, before the website is developed. This helps to ensure that the look and feel of the site is perfectly in place, before the costly development phase begins, and also that this development runs smooth because the end result is clear.

Test of design / prototype on target group before the site is developed

Select to see information about each choice

The design and structure of your content is incredibly important. If you choose this option, you need have a clear idea of the content you want on your site (text, images, video, page types, sitemap, etc.), and you need to have a good understanding of your target group. But even if you believe you have all this, I will still recommend that this phase is highly weighted. In fact, the more thorough you are with this process, the more sustainable and effective your site becomes. Both the structure of pages and texts are of great importance for your website's ranking on the search engines (SEO).

As a minimum, we should have a short introductory workshop together where content and structure are clarified. Therefore, an expense is added to this in the estimate.

What features should your site have?
(Note: These features can always be added later, if you don't see a need for them on the initial site))

Requirements and Needs (Bespoke)

What type of website do you need?

Make a selection to see information about each option

A site like this shows briefly relevant information about your business so that your customers can find you and get an impression of your business. Typically contains static content that rarely changes.

Since you have chosen a bespoke solution, I can here recommend you to get a website with no use of CMS (which in this case means without Wordpress). Since the website content is static, you don't need a heavy CMS engine to change and create content. So this way you will get a lightning fast and top performing website (which among other nice things, the search engines loves to rank higher!). But if you eventually wants to extend the scope of you site with new features and content, you should select one of the other two options.

This site is the right choice when online presence is important for your business marketing, and thus often need to change and add new content. Sites like this can for example also deliver landing pages for the company's marketing campaigns.
As with "Online business", but here extra emphasis is placed on both performance (which affects both the experience and SEO), as well as optimization of desired pages so that they deliver the desired conversions. thus giving your business more customers.

The Standard Solution

– WordPress Third-party Themes

TL:DR;

For cheap money you can get an acceptable looking WordPress site, built on a preset based third-party theme. This can be a good solution if you have just started your business and the budget is small, but can cause a lot of headaches (and wallet pain) in the long term.

A WordPress site always uses a so-called theme, which determines how the site looks and how the individual pages are structured. This can be built from scratch or you can buy and install a seemingly fancy “ready-made” theme for cheap (it costs about $40-60) built by an external third-party company.

These themes try to make it easy for as many people as possible to be able to add, design and edit the content of desired web pages themselves, via so-called page-builders that make it possible to do all these things, without knowledge of code. As a part of that, they typically deliver a broad selection of features that you can choose to implement on your pages, as components in one of the theme’s design presets.

It is websites that are built on a ready-made theme like these that are often offered by WordPress website providers, and it can therefore be done cheaper than if you tailor a theme from scratch.

So yes, with a finished theme, you can build your own pages! On paper, it may appear that there is no need for external help, apart from the setup of the web host, WordPress and theme. That is why you often see WordPress sites being offered for incredibly cheap money, and it is clear that many in their ignorance go for this solution. But quite quickly problems start to arise.

Fourth Party Plugins

The ready-made themes consist of a whole bunch of features/plugins (sliders, sections, layout components, etc.) which are provided by fourth-party companies. Each of these is of course maintained by their own developers (and therefore not those who offer the theme), and several of these doesn’t update their products properly. You also often see that several plugin developers completely stop developing on them. This means that the building blocks that the theme has been tested to run with suddenly doesn’t work together anymore, and this causes a lot of errors, both on the visible public pages (also called the frontend), as well as in the theme’s page-builders and other content management.

Can you do it all yourself, without having to code?

Yes, if you are born with a designer in your belly, and if you have a flair for web design, it is a simple matter to design something average looking in a third party theme. But if you don’t have both, it’s immediately more difficult. The theme gives you a number of tools to build the pages, but it’s not very useful if you don’t know what to build with them.

This is actually the way many self-proclaimed “web designers” sell their websites. They install a third-party theme and build the pages in their page-builders, without having to do anything with code. In this way, you get a nice site to begin with, but as mentioned above, these themes often cause problems because the individual parts are not updated.

The performance of ready-made themes

A third-party theme is built to take into account all conceivable scenarios that their customers (site owners and designers) might come up with. Therefore, the theme naturally has to contain code that supports all these conceivable choices. This even if all the possible features are not used. This significantly larger code base often has an impact on site performance, and is more prone to errors on the way through the site. Later on, it is also difficult to make new streamlined well-functioning additions when the code base is heavy and complex. Here, new developers will first have to come in and overwrite/reset the theme code, before the new code can be created on top. This means even more code and when the theme is changed than today, it may again clash with the new one that has been made.

However, this solution may still be right for you right now

Although there are many concerns about a WordPress site based on a third-party theme, as described, it can still be a great solution for you, in the place where your business is now. Typically, it is early start-ups and small companies, with small budgets, that benefit greatly from this type of solution.

With this type of solution, you are up and running with a fair site that will run well in the short term, and it will probably keep doing so during the first important period of your company’s development. Then, when you have a little more room in the budget, you can then get a new sustainable, great looking and high performing bespoke site. At this point you can of course bring all the experience and the concrete individual well-functioning parts from the old site.

But of course, in every way it is always best if you have the means to go directly to a bespoke solution which is both well-crafted, sustainable, easy to maintain and radiates exactly what you want your brand to communicate.

The Bespoke Solution

– Your own WordPress theme build from scratch

TL:DR;

The tailor-made solution gives you a site that is built exactly for your company’s purpose. Both in relation to design and development. It is also built as a WordPress theme, but here it is built completely from scratch, which ensures a small codebase that is easy to maintain and build upon.

When you choose this solution, the theme for your site is created from scratch and adapted to exactly what you need to use the site for. This way the code for the site supports exactly and solely the things that your website must be able to accomplish. Not everything else that you either don’t use or that is difficult to keep up to date.

From the design (which is built on either existing sketches, or sketches we design together) the pages are molded with the agreed elements and styles, and you or your content managers can then easily add new information without having to think about neither style, structure nor performance.

This is the “right” way to do it, so if you have the budget here and now, it is obvious that I recommend that you go this way. Keep in mind that it is only the initial cost, which is higher than with the standard third-party solution. If you get a tailor-made solution, to begin with, you will not have all sorts of problems that require continuous help, and secondly, there is a much shorter and cheaper path to new features on your site, as these are built into a code base that is easy to access and review for future developers.

There is no doubt that this solution will be cheaper in the long term than a standard solution, as a small tailored codebase offers less risk of errors, and at the same time is easier to fix when an inevitable error occurs.

Without WordPress – Static Content

If you need a tailored website, where the content will almost always be the same, I can recommend you to order a site without CMS. That is without WordPress.

Here, you cannot log into an underlying system and create content yourself. Here, all content is directly coded into the pages that make up your homepage. There is no database, and thus no additional communication with a server, to retrieve the site’s content.

This means lightning fast loading times, and thus a much more seamless user experience. The price will also be less than with WordPress, but since the pages have to be built one by one, it will still be more expensive than a standard solution.
